Trailing guidelines
Level one
The trail will be a minimum of 30 minutes old and 1/2 mile in distance the trail will cover at least two surfaces and no more than two turns. There will be no cross trail. A scent article will be used. Handler, K-9 and one flanker will be permitted. The trail layer will be at the end of the trail. The K-9 team will be given 15 minutes to start in 30 minutes to complete the trail.
Level  two
The trail will be a minimum of 2 hours old. The trail will be a minimum of 1 mile one mile in length. There will be no cross trail and at least three turns, a sent article will be used. Handler, K-9 and a flanker will be permitted. The runner will be waiting at the end of the trail. The canine team will be given 15 minutes to start and one hour to complete the trail.
Level three
The trail will be a minimum of 5 hours old. The trail will be a minimum of two miles with multiple turns and or surfaces with a cross trail. A scent article will be used. Handler, K9 and one flanker will be permitted. The runner will be waiting at the end of the trail. The K-9 team will be given 15 minutes to start and 2 hours to complete the trail.
The following trails are for urban mantrailing. These certifications are for teams that plan on doing the majority of their work in an urban setting. Levels 2 through 4 are recommended for law enforcement but not limited to LE. Civilians are encouraged to test at these higher levels.
Urban level one
The trail will be a minimum of one hour old. The trail will be a minimum of 1/2 Mile in length. The trail will be 60% hard surface, it will be at least one road crossing. A scent article will be used. Handler, K9 and one flanker permitted. The K-9 team will be given 5 minutes to start 30 minutes to complete the trail.
Urban level two
The trail will be a minimum of 2 hours old. The trail will start on hard surface and be ran on at least 90% hard surface. The trail will be a minimum of three quarters of a mile and length. It will be at least 3 turns as well as two Street Crossings. The K-9 team will have to identify the correct Runner from three different people who will be at the end of the trail. The runner and decoys will be at least 15 ft apart. Identification of the runner can be a combination of input from the Handler and K9 but the Handler has to "call" the correct person. The K-9 team will be given 10 minutes to start the trail in one hour to complete the trail.
Urban level three
The trail will be a minimum of 3 hours old. The trail will start on hard surface and will be ran on at least 90% hard surface. The scent article will need to be identified by the Handler. The trail will be a minimum of three quarter miles in length. The canine will need to identify the correct suspect at the end. There will be a runner at the end as well as no more than 5 decoys. The K-9 team will be given 10 minutes to start the trail and 2 hours to complete the trail.
Urban level 4
The trail will be a minimum of six hours old. The trail will start at a location of either soft or hard surface, that will be determined by the Handler through interview of witnesses to locate point last seen. The trail will be ran on at least 80% hard Surface. The trail will be a minimum of 3/4 miles long and there will be at least three Road Crossings. The Handler will have to obtain the scent article and the eliminate possible cross-contamination scents. The K-9 team will have 20 minutes to obtain the scent article and determine where to start the K-9. The K-9 team will have to determine a car pick up or a door ID at the end of the trail. 10 minutes will be given to start the trail and one hour to run the trail.
All Trails will be confirmed by GPS. The team must be on trail for at least 80% with allowances for Environmental conditions and Terrain.

HRD Certification Guidelines
Prerequisites required:
Crime scene preservation, Bloodborne pathogens, AKC Canine Good Citizen or the equivalent of.
    
The human remains testing will be conducted as if a real search.
Each search area will be numbered, your search areas will be determined by a automatic number generator.
-20 minutes will be allotted for each search area
-There will be a minimum of 12 search areas
-You will be assigned to a minimum of 6 search areas maximum 8
-Multiple hides will be 10 search areas
-Two search areas will have no human remains
-All search areas will have distractions of some sort including human traffic, trash, animals nearby and possibly animal remains
-Shoreline, buried, ground level and elevated will be performed in open fields, wooded areas and semi populated areas
-These tests will be ran as double blinds
-And GPS is required, if you do not have a GPS please inform your instructor BEFORE testing day 
-Once K9 does the final response the handler  will document the GPS coordinates of K9's trained final response
-Upon arrival to base GPS will be handed to the Location and mapping coordinator to be uploaded to a individual mapping link that at the end of the day will be confirmed as a pass or fail by the evaluator, Flagging may be used in lieu of GPS depending on availability.
ANY ALERTS TO ANIMAL REMAINS IS AN AUTOMATIC FAIL!


Elevated
-Source will be no less then 4 feet above ground level
-Source will be placed in either building or wooded area
-0-3 human remains sources will be placed in a search area
-0-2 distraction sources will be placed in search area
Buried Search
-Source will be buried no less then 16 inches deep and no more than 36 inches deep
-multiple Decoy holes will be in place
-0-3 human remains sources will be placed in the search area
-1-3 Animal remains or distractions will be placed in search area. Included to but not limited to buried and above ground
Shoreline Search
-Source will be placed in no less than 2 feet of water and no more than 3 feet of water in depth.
-Source will not be placed more than 4 feet from shoreline.
-0-1 human remains source will be placed along shoreline.
-0-1 distraction sources will be placed along shoreline.
Vehicle Search
-No less than 3 and no more than 5 vehicles used
-Vehicles will be position 5 to 10 feet apart
-0 to 1 human remain source will be placed on a single vehicle
-1-3 distractions sources will be placed on no less than 1 vehicle and no more than 2 vehicles
-This test will be preformed double blind, Notate specific location of the find such as vehicle make and model and location inside of the vehicle or outside of the vehicle
Building Search
-Building will be approximately 2000-3000 square feet
-0-1 human remains sources will be placed in the building
-1-3 distraction sources will be placed in the building
-This test will be performed double blind
-If K9 indicates the handler will note detailed location ( I.e 2nd shelf in main hallway, couch located in basement etc )
-And upon completion inform evaluator


All source will weigh no less than 30 grams.
Source will include but not limited to bone,teeth,tissue,blood and fat that has been legally acquired by a trusted source
